Is The Air in Your Orlando Home Clean?

If you’re in your home right now (a safe assumption, probably), take a deep breath. What did you just breathe in? Air? Sure, of course. But did you know you might have just inhaled dust, pet dander, pollen, and even mold spore? Before you freak out or get up in arms, let’s have a talk about indoor air quality. You might learn some neat things!

What’s All This About Indoor Air Quality?

There has been a ton of fear mongering on this topic. Folks want you to believe some wacky things in order to sell you products. And don’t get us wrong, we want to sell you products and services, too. We are, in fact, a business. But we want to provide you with the services and products you need, and we also want you to understand why you need them.

The first thing to know about indoor air is that it is essentially exactly the same as outdoor air. Except the air basically has no outlet, and there are loads of places for common air pollutants to just hang out, including your:

  • HVAC ducts
  • Walls and floors
  • Attics and basements
  • Furniture and carpets
  • Clothing
  • Pretty much everywhere

So as you can see, the air in your home contains all of the same stuff. Just way more of it. Now, yucky home air has some very certain and quantifiable health impacts. It’s not going to enfeeble you to death, but it can have some very adverse impacts, including respiratory illness, feelings of lethargy, headaches, and sneezing/coughing. Plus it just kinds smells musty and nasty.

Okay, So What Do I Do About It?

The answer here isn’t really an easy one. It’s hard to set things in stone because everyone’s home is different. Do you have pets? Do you smoke indoors? How well insulated is your Orlando home? There are tons of variables. The “biggest” products and services that address air quality include:

  • Air purification systems. Purifiers, in very simple words, scrub your air clean of dust and pollutants using UV light, complex filtration systems, or a few other forms of technology. If you want a more in-depth explanation, we’ve got a handy page on our purifier systems, if you’re interested.
  • Air duct cleaning services. Air duct cleaning is a hard service to really nail down. It’s a really, really good idea. But it’s not something you need every year. But if you’re not sure when the last time you had one was or you’ve never had one, we would heartily recommend it. You wouldn’t believe how much gunk gets caked up in ducts.
  • Home humidifiers and dehumidifiers. The ideal humidity range for a home is between 35 and 50 percent. Too low and you get dry skin, coughing, and your wood furniture starts cracking and warping. Too high and you feel sticky and gross all the time.
