How to Replace the Air Filter in Your Orlando HVAC System
Really, the most important and time consuming thing is actually going to the store to get new filters. The rest of the job takes a couple minutes tops! But before you go shopping, be sure to know your filter size. You want to be sure to buy the right ones, so you don’t waste time and money.
Your system’s filter is housed in the blower compartment, which is usually near the middle or bottom of the indoor HVAC system. The compartment is covered with either a door, or a removable plate that will either snap or slide off. Either way, it’s really easy to get access to the filter. Once you find where it is, check the filter’s borders and it should display the size very clearly on the borders. It should display by standard L x W, the smaller number coming first.
Once you know the size, go grab your new filters, and we’d recommend buying a pack or a few, so you always have some handy. You might also consider getting pleated filters–they do a better job, and massively improve air quality. Just don’t get HEPA, because those are for industrial use.
Got your new filters? Good! Now it’s actually as simple as sliding the old filter out, and sliding the new one in. Close up and done! That’s really all!
The Short Version
And note, always shut off your HVAC system when working on it. Always!
- Locate your blower compartment. Either near the bottom or in the middle of the indoor unit.
- Check the filter size and get new filters. Displayed as L x W (length/width), this is most commonly on the borders of the filter. If not, check your manual.
- Slide out the old filter, and replace. Quick and easy, just slide out the old one, slide in the new one, and then replace the blower compartment cover.
Three easy steps, and you just improved your indoor air quality, protected your system from random breakdowns, and bettered HVAC efficiency. Three big benefits, three easy steps—it just doesn’t get much better. Be sure to do this at least every other month for the best results.
