Evaporator Coils

What Are Evaporator Coils?

The evaporator coil is the part of an air conditioner or heat pump that absorbs the heat from the air in your house. It is located inside the air handler or attached to the furnace.

What Do Evaporator Coils Do?

The evaporator coil is located inside the blower compartment or air handler, and it holds the chilled refrigerant that the compressor moves into it.

As the air from the blower fan moves over the evaporator coil, the chilled refrigerant removes the heat from your Florida home’s air. The refrigerant becomes warmer and travels to the condenser coil outside.

With a heat pump, the process reverses in the winter; the evaporator coil will expel the heat from the refrigerant into your home, instead of absorbing it and sending it outside.

Take Care of Your Evaporator Coil

Because of the way they operate, evaporator coils need to be kept clean to perform as intended and reach optimal energy efficiency. A dirty evaporator coil can experience a number of problems, including:

  • Decreased heat absorption & cooling capacity
  • Higher energy use
  • Higher pressures & temperatures
  • Frost & ice buildup

If your evaporator coil experiences any of these issues, contact Greens Energy for repairs today – call our team at 407-917-3759 or contact us online.
